Well, they're certainly going. Two down, three to go.

My very first vlog is live. And audible! Amazing, but true. Look here for proof:

And yes, it says "WEDNESDAY" in the title in complete defiance of the fact that it's THURSDAY here. However, it's still Wednesday in many, many parts of the world so I maintain that my video is not late. On the contrary: it's just being considerate and inclusive of those of you who have yet to venture into today.

It's strange how quickly you become accustomed to new things. The first time I recorded myself, I felt like an absolute idiot. Which, admittedly, is not that far removed from my normal way of thinking. However. I think I'm even growing indifferent to watching myself on the screen as I edit. Things always seem so much harder before you actually begin them.

So, since I obviously haven't done this much before (or, uh, ever...), I'm open to advice. What should I be doing? What shouldn't I be doing? What am I doing well? What needs improvement? Help me to become better at this whole thing!

Hey, Aussie accent! I can't video myself because I hate editing it, so you're obviously doing something right! I have no idea what you should be doing better though, seems pretty good to me :P.

I like the iPod touch too hehe. V. v. shiny!

I thought I'd be the same - sort of shielding my eyes from the screen while putting the thing together. But apparently not.

I love my iPod waaaaaay too much. :D

AWESOME!!!

DId you have a script outlined to remind yourself what to say, or are you naturally articulate? There was a pleasing absence of "ums" which would have been in abundance had *I* been recording myself.

Also: I feel I should confess that I can't even remember what a preposition is. Or a conjunction, for that matter. I realised the other week that I can't remember any of the grammar rules I learnt in primary school and so I really, really hope I'm not unconsciously breaking them every moment of the day.

Well, if we're confessing things... I should confess that I didn't know many of the rules of grammar until I learnt them for myself over about the last five years. I was hardly taught any grammar in school - I just sort of picked it up because I read so much.

And thank-you. I didn't have a script but I did have a list of the five things I was going to mention, so I guess that helped. :)

I'm hoping that's how it'll work for me -- just keep reading good stuff and the grammar will slip in by osmosis :).

I honestly think it does work that way. If you read the right stuff, you develop a sort of... feeling for writing, I guess. You can feel how good writing should go. You cam feel when it's not right.

Plus, good writing is always inspirational. :)

What an adorable smile you have when speaking of people crying.

I didn't even realise my brain had conjured a voice for you until now. Now that I read your LJ, there are all these voices struggling to be heard. Yours, mine and the Katie imposter!

Ah, the thought of people crying because of my beta-ing always makes me happy. :D

How intriguing that you gave me a voice! It should be totally drowned out by the end of year, when you'll be sick of hearing my real one, no doubt... :D

*wails* I'can't watch because of this stoopid failputer.

I promise cross my heart hope to die that this will be the first thing I do when I get home.

Well after sleep
and a shower
and unpacking
and washing
and buying food
and eating food
and going to work the next morning.

I promise that it will be the eighth thing I do!!! (wow that doesn't sound anywhere near as good does it? eek)

*curses the failputer and all its progeny*

It's OK that it's the eighth thing on your list, provided you won't be all smelly and complaining about starving to death while watching it.

Hey, it's you! Wow, video logging is cool - all my LJ friends should do it so I know how they look and sound (purely for my benefit, mind). Is that a full Aussie accent or is there something else in there?

"I begin sentences with conjunctions but I don't end them with prepositions. Because that's just ugly."

Gold.

Oh dear, I just realised by enjoying that line, I'm like Comic Book Guy with his C:DOS/RUN t-shirt.

I really need a word nerd icon.

It is me! It's kind of fun once you get used to it - I think everyone should do it at least once, if only so we all know what these internet people look and sound like. And yes, it's all Aussie but I'm intrigued - what else could you hear?

Hehe, I'm glad you liked that line. :)

Cool - nice to see what you look and sound like. I thnk I'd have a seizure before being able to do this sort of thing - people nearly have to bribe me for a still photo, not to mention I sound like the biggest dork on any recording.

It also reminds me by what you're wearing that it's warm down there right now. I just need to get a winter home in the southern hemisphere.

Looking forward to seeing more of you - I have no advice for doing this though because cameras (hmmm a good majority of technology too) hate me.

i thought I heard some American or Irish vowels but it could just be Eastern states.

Oh, interesting! In the first video I posted (which nobody could hear... :D), the way I said "webcam" came out all American-sounding. For some reason. I wasn't aware of it at the time, though. so it was completely bewildering to hear it when I played the video back.

Thanks. :) I have to tell you, though, it took me ages to even make the first test video - one that nobody has even seen. I was just sitting there, staring at the camera, telling myself, OK, now press record and say something. Sure, you're going to feel like an idiot but in a minute or so, it'll all be over... Even though there was nobody else around, I just felt so stupid.

But it gets easier. I'm actually looking forward to making my next one.

It's definitely warm down here. Not quite as warm today as it was when I made the video, but it'll do. My plan is also to make it so I can live in Summer all year around. One day. Somehow. Winter is extremely over-rated, although I do enjoy the opportunity it gives me to wear nice coats and lovely boots. :D

Thank-you! Of course, now that I've done it, I can do nothing but think of how I could have done it better or come up with far more interesting things to say about myself... But I think I'm satisfied with how it went for my first real attempt. :D

And yes, please steal it! I'm glad you like it. :)
