I think our own writing always suffers by comparison purely because we're so used to it. We know how we write and what sort of characters we create, so anything different automatically seems better. But really, it's just different.

And then there's the way our mood or attitude influences what we write or how we look back on it. Anything to do with creativity is fickle.
