katiefoolery: (Turles gushes... sarcastically I'm sure)

My imagination is ganging up against me.

It sounds impossible, but it’s true.  Not happy with spawning one muse after years of contented, museless writing, it’s thrown up another, who shall henceforth be referred to as The Other One.

*glares at The Other One*

Jane still likes to keep me up late into the night (or early into the morning, depending on your point of view) talking excitedly about story ideas and writing out scenes in my head.  This has happened every night for the past week.  What is it about that time of the morning that makes my brain turn over like that?  I can go all day without having a single story idea but once I try to get some sleep, suddenly they’re all crowding into my head, eagerly being shoved in there by Jane.

The Other One (*glares*) seems to be picking up where Jane leaves off, however.  He likes to tell me stories during the day, usually when I’m occupied with something else.  He has a strange sense of humour... which I guess is mine, really.  I think he’s been lurking at the back of my mind for a while now, but he only really stepped forward the other night when I was cooking macaroni cheese.  It was boiling hot in the kitchen and more to the point, I was cooking.  Gah.  And right in the middle of my hissy fit over having to actually prepare my own dinner, The Other One started telling me stories.

I think Jane likes him.  In fact, I’m pretty sure they plotted these things out when I wasn’t looking (most likely when I’d passed out from not getting enough sleep and then having to cook in the tropical heat of the kitchen).

Jane: This shall work out perfectly!  I will continue to bother her with scenes and dialogue when she is attempting in vain to sleep and you can take advantage of her weakness during the day!
The Other One: *smirks*
Jane: *suddenly recalls all her fantasies of running away and falling in love with a highwayman*
The Other One: *smirkier smirk*

Yep - my imagination is definitely against me.

At least they do amuse me from time to time.

Oh yes I am. Now I have attacks coming from both fronts. My only refuge is sleep... when Jane lets me have any, that is.

Yes, just last week, I was kept from sleeping until I'd answered the request of one particular character who decided to bombard me with a story just as I was going to bed. Bastard.

Muses are bastards, but we'd miss them if they weren't there.

There must be something about our state of mind as we prepare to sleep that makes us particularly vulnerable to muses. Ah well, at least we know we're not alone.

And yes - it probably would be quite boring without them really.

Yes, there's nothing like knowing that while you sleep, your characters/muses/etc are secretly planning ways to make you procrastinate.

Yes, we're not insane because we think we have characters talking to us. They're muses. :P

Goodness, no - we're perfectly normal! Any accusations of insanity are clearly born from jealousy. :D

exactly. Sanity is for the weak. :P Besides, I like having all those boys up there, talking to me. Makes life so much more interesting. XD

I think it'd be kinda nice to have muses with personality. All I have is plot fairies. Bastards.

But don't your plot fairies have sparkles and pretty wings? You never know - they might develop some personalities eventually... and then you'll be sorry. :P

Your muses sound like great prodders. Look at it this way - you'll never be allowed to procrastinate about writing again, should Jane and her highwayman have their way.
What happened with Jane, by the way? Are you and Elfie still writing that?

Well this is quite true.

Ack - you've just reminded me that I'm supposed to be writing Jane's next letter. I'd completely forgotten. So yes - it's definitely still going, just slowly.

for us, anyway. Sorry, can't help being selfish if this means I'll get to read even more of your work!

meh. It's a blessing, really. Can you imagine what life would be like without the muse? Sure you'd get more sleep..but it would be piles less fun!

Well yes, this is true. And they do amuse me.

By the way, your evil plan to inspire more Stargate Atlantis dreams failed miserably. :P

If The Other One has a fancy cape, all is lost.

*appeals to The Other One* By the way, O He Of The Smirk, if you and Jane could sort of noodge Katie toward writing another Jane letter, Lizzie would be eternally grateful.

I just hope that The Other One and Lizzie don't have a flaming row and end by not speaking to one another.

Oh gods - he does have a cape. He doesn't wear it all the time, but he does like to loom about in it from time to time. I'm doomed, aren't I?

Oops - I went off and re-read some of Jane and Lizzie's letters and forgot I was writing this comment. I have some ideas for a new letter so I shall try and write it very soon indeed.

Did you know theres a simple, yet guaranteed way to make the muse's stop bothering you?

Its very simple, so simple i hesitate to tell you what the answer is...

All you have to do to silence the muse's is....

WRITE THEIR STORIES!!! THATS ALL, JUST WRITE. STOP TALKING ON LJ, STOP MAKING ICONS, STOP YAKKING TO YOUR FRIENDS 23 HOURS A DAY AND WRITE. THEY WANT YOU TO WRITE, THATS WHY THEY GIVE YOU STORIES. PUT IT ON PAPER, GET OFF YOUR BOTTOM AND WRITE. PUT THE STORIES ONLINE SO ALL YOUR FRINDS CAN READ THEM. WHY DO YOU THINK THEY BOTHER YOU WITH IDEAS IF THEY ARN'T MEANT TO BE WRITTEN?? THE MORE YOU DONT WRITE, THE MORE THEY WILL BOTHER YOU WITH IDEAS, IT WONT EVER STOP, IT WILL GO ON FOREVER, YOU WILL NEVER GET ANY SLEEP IF YOU DONT WRITE THE STORIES. ONCE YOU WRITE THE STORIES THEY WILL BE HAPPY. SO WRITE, WRITE LIKE YOU HAVE NEVER WRITTEN B4, WRITE TILL YOUR FINGERS BLEED, THEN WRITE SOME MORE. WRITE LIKE THE WIND.

/husbandly rant off

PS what would you like for dinner?

Luvya:):)
