katiefoolery: (LJ addict)
[personal profile] katiefoolery
Well, that was an unsettling couple of hours - for most of yesterday, I didn’t have a paid LJ account.  And for a while, I was quite blasé about it.  Who needs one? I asked myself, although asking yourself rhetorical questions is always fraught with existential concerns.  Am I asking myself a question or not?  And should I ignore myself or what?  I ended up answering the question when I was introduced to the unfortunate reality of six icons.  Which, admittedly, is double what I used to have waaaaay back at the start of my LJing days... but considerably fewer than the 113 that were available to me for 2007.

So I caved in.  Also, I might want to run a random poll or make an ill-advised voice post at some stage in the future, who knows? (Oooh, let’s not forget the fact I can’t make email posts unless I have a paid account... That’s important.)

I would also like the following things to be known:
  • In complete disregard of the Hippocratic oath, [livejournal.com profile] crazedturkey is going around killing people.  First Edmund Hilary, now Soeharto... who knows who’ll be in her sights next.

  • If I’d been able to get to a bank last week, I could have been one of the lucky ones with a copy of The Stone Key in my hands.  I’m still not sure how to feel about this book; expectations are low, so it might manage to impress me.

  • My holidays will be over as of 6:30am tomorrow morning.  I’m dragging them out for as long as possible, although I will most likely be sleeping for the greater portion of the time that remains.  I can’t help but feel that this is a great waste of time.  On the other hand, I can’t help but feel that sleeping will definitely aid with wakefulness at work.

  • I am frustrated at myself for not devoting myself whole-heartedly to searching for a new job over the holidays.  Hopefully, the irritation of work will change that attitude.

  • [livejournal.com profile] flippyfrog and [livejournal.com profile] emerald85 are making me extremely envious of their adventures in Greece.  But I love their updates and the millions of photos they keep providing, so I shall forgive them with all of my heart.  It’s just wonderful to see them living out a dream.

I would like to finish off this post of randomness with a picture of randomness.  Thus:

Oh noes, a tank!

I’m being run over by a tank and [livejournal.com profile] rigel_7 doesn’t care!

"The Stone Key" is the best book thus far in The Ober Chron. SRSLY. I know that you've been feeling a bit disenchanted with IC/TOC but I hope/think 'TSK' can redeem it for you. Having said that... maybe I should have kept my mouth shut/fingers still, because we all know that hype greatly affects your opinion...

*watches expectations rise*

Oh dear.

I'm looking forward to reading it (even though I've probably forgotten so much stuff from the previous books) but I'm still not expecting too much. It'd probably be a little different if it were the last book, of course. It's going to be weird when the series is all over, considering how much time has passed since I first read Obernewtyn.

That photo is hilarious! Rigel's going to save you! She's just going to pull a heroic pose first.

I can barely remember what happened in the last two books of OC. It's been a long time, but hopefully The Stone Key will be satisfying. :)

Hehe, I never thought of it that way. Now that I look more closely, it does appear as though she's doing the whole pose thing, rather than the ignoring my trauma entirely thing.

I just know I'm going to be completely lost when I pick up The Stone Key. It was bad enough when I read The Keeping Place - I hadn't gone more than a chapter before I had to put it down and re-read Ashling first so I could refresh my memory on what had happened to Matthew (I seemed to have completely blocked that little scene out entirely).

Heh, yeah, it's hard to do with so few icons, isn't it? I debated on renewing early and getting the boost they give in December, but decided not to. I'm still not too sure about the whole change over they did last year, so I figure I'll deal with fewer icons, and wait for my account to run out. Depending on how things go between now and August, I may renew or find a different venue..... *sigh*

Hehe, cool pic! And shame on her for not helping you ^_~

I had many of the same thoughts about re-newing, especially after everything that went on in 2007. I ended up deciding that I enjoy the people I know via LJ too much to give it up entirely.

Isn't it awful the way she just stood there and posed for the camera instead of dragging me to safety? :D

I'm on the same wavelength as you then lol. It's why I'm still on LJ. But still, it'll depend on how things unfold from this point, on whether I stay for the sake of those people, or whether I go somewhere else to do my blogging (not to say I won't be reading, it's the posting I'm talking about)

*nods* Indeed ^_~

A couple of friends have headed to other sites and I try to keep up with them... but it's so easy to forget when they're no longer on my friends list every day. And you can syndicate, of course, but it doesn't work for locked entries. I guess I still LJ, for all its flaws.

Yeah, I know. I've had a few go as well (though for reasons other then LJ). I still keep up though, as I've got them in a special folder that I open every day anyway ^_~

Paid is the only option (other than Permanent). That's all there is to it. (smile)

Seriously, I know it can get expensive over time, but what the hell. It's still a bargain, compared to many other things we spend money on.

Welcome back to the realm of the paid user. I'm sure you're glad you did it!

Love the tank photo! Hysterical.

So, do you have to re-load all your icons? (yikes)

(hugs)

I'm not bothered by the cost - with the exchange rate the way it is at the moment, it's very affordable. When I bought my first paid year in 2005, it cost me $A38 or thereabouts. Now it only costs $A28. And as much as LJ can irritate me from time to time, I still haven't found a comparable site out there.

Luckily, the icons are stored on my account - I just couldn't access them. They were re-activated as soon as I re-newed my subscription. Thankfully.

The tank photo is indicative of the entire time I spent in Canberra, really. It was a fantastic week and it was so sad that it had to end.

Definitely headed hell-wards. But at least victory shall be yours!

I just adore the tank photo. If the original of it should happen to turn up in my email inbox, I'd be a very happy Bunne indeed. :D

I want to! I'm sick at home today, so I'm going to spend my time coughing, feeling sorry for myself and looking for a full-time job. Then I can funnel money into a top secret Running Away From Home To Live In Europe With Jenny And Aimee account. :D

That photo just so happens to be one of my favourites from the entire trip.
