Everyone else is doing it!

Well, they are!

And by everyone, I mean sopdetly and katilara. Which is pretty much everyone, when you think about it.

And what, exactly, is everyone doing? Well, from what I can gather, everyone is having slight panics about recording themselves, thinking about what to say while recording themselves and then uploading said recordings to the internet.

At which point, we run away screaming and hide in a corner while quivering in abject fear.

Or something.

Because, for some reason unknown even to myself, I agreed to take part in a regular vlog as an addition to this whole GYWO thing. There are five of us: surferartchick, sopdetly, katilara, theemdash and myself. You'll be able to see us by watching or subscribing to the YouTube channel here: FiveDotNerds. The first one's up already! I'm just off to watch it myself.

But before I go - here's me making my test video. Just in case you've ever wondered what I look like or how I sound or if I look like a complete idiot while staring into a webcam. The answer to the third: why, yes, yes I do.

Oh, and I talk too quietly, so the volume needs to be turned UP right after the intro.

Aaaaand it served its purpose and now it's gone.

P.S. I wrote actual words last night! :D

I work with a super-soft-spoken person...I am always having to pop out of my chair to hear her! LOL. Used to drive me nuts...but that's just the way she is. Grin.

The strange thing is that it sounds perfectly normal to me... when I'm speaking, anyway. But people are always telling me to speak up. For obvious reasons. Even though I feel as though I'm shouting.

My lame-o computer (no, I'm sorry, cheap little laptop; I do actually love you!) won't let me turn your video up any louder, but I liked what I could hear. You seem naturally gentle and feminine (which I hope will come across as a compliment, as is intended). Can't wait for more vlogs :D.

Heheh, it probably wouldn't have helped much - I was just speaking too quietly. Although it didn't feel like that at the time. My biggest area of improvement: LEARN TO SPEAK LOUDLY. I think it would be useful it people could actually hear me.

Seriously, I swear it sounds like I'm talking at normal volume to me, but apparently the rest of the world is out there shouting SPEAK UP WE CAN'T HEAR YOU. My intro video's slightly better but I still think I'm going to need to re-do it while shouting or something.

It might just mean that the mic on your computer isn't great and that you need to buy an external. :P

Have you tried futzing with settings? I know that I can make my internal mic record my voice louder. Or does the editing program you have allow to make volume adjustments? There may be ways to work around it without shouting. . . .

It's probably a combination of both computer and me. People are always telling me I speak too softly and I kept noticing I have an irritating habit of lowering my voice for, like, effect or something. What sort of effect I HAVE NO IDEA. My capture programme doesn't really have that many settings on it, so I may have to look at other more general settings - it's a newish computer and I haven't used it for recording before, which means there are probably more options I can explore.

External mic idea has definitely occurred to me. Luckily I live really close to a computer/electronics superstore, so I may just pay it a visit tomorrow morning.

Better than having your default volume being too loud. It's embarrassing to talk to a few of my friends in public. Once a lady asked me to ask my friend to talk quieter. D=

Hah, yeah - I know people like that. And they think they're talking quietly to you in the middle of a movie or something but you know EVERYONE IN THE CINEMA CAN HEAR THEM.

I turned my library computer's speakers all the way up and they got all fuzzy and lost all sound! :D And it was still hard to hear you. But oh well. Yay! A face to the written words I read all the time!

I know - it's seriously bad! I think I've fixed it, though, thanks to some advice from surferartchick. My actual real serious intro video's about to go up and... I think people might actually be able to hear me talking in it.
