katiefoolery: (Inspiration)

If you have a google email account (or know somebody whose name starts with B and who happens to be writing this post and also just happens to have some forty-eight invitations remaining), then you'll be delighted to know that you can now create your own webpage with a WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) editor and an easy-to-remember address.

Your google page gives you up to 100 megabytes of storage (that's more than enough, believe me - I used to have 15 meg at GeoCities and I only managed to use a third of it) and your address will be username.googlepages.com.  That's as easy to remember as your LJ address and much more memorable than some of the addresses provided by other free webhosts out there.

Why not have a look?

yes... but then you have to be able to actually understand coding... I still don't get it :S

No - that's the joy of it. If you can put together a pretty page on Word, then you can make a website with Google pages. No coding experience required.

I sound like an ad, don't I? Google should be paying me for this. ;)

Eventually, Google is going to take over the world and rule it, you know. It does look great, though. Much better than GeoCities' miserable range of templates.

I'm not sure I'd mind Google taking over the world, actually. There was an article in Time magazine a short while ago about them and their office - among other things, Google gives its employees free food, pool tables and video games in the employee lounge, gadgets to play with whilst procrastinating thinking about that tough bit of design, free gyms (complete with trainers and pool lifeguards), free childcare, 24-hour tech support and beanbags. Seriously, imagine what the world would be like if Google made all offices like that. :D

I read that same article! While I was supposed to be cataloguing the magazine... They're very lucky people, with their gourmet meals and cut-price haircuts and swimming pools. I wouldn't mind working in an environment such as that.

Oh yes, I know. I'm all for Google taking over the world. And yeah, geoshities sucks.

There's some more info here (http://searchenginewatch.com/searchday/article.php/3586916) and a little bit a the Google pages (http://pages.google.com) site itself.

If you'd like a Google invite, just let me know which email address to send it to, good Nomes.

It looks great, doesn't it? It really is only a matter of time before Google takes over the world.

Oooooooooo!

I'd love an invite, Katie! (I don't have a gmail account!)

You can send it to me at charliemc at livejournal.com if you don't mind.

Thanks, thanks, thanks!

(And thanks for the information, too!)

I have a Gmail account (well, several) yet I have to go on the waiting list. What's up with that?

I'm not sure. When I went there last night, I was able to log straight in. Maybe everyone's suddenly discovered it and the traffic's too much for Google to handle.

Other people have been put on a waiting list, too. This is what they were told:

I can still log in. *shrugs* But, hey, it is still a brand new thing. I expect it to take a while to iron out bugs and get it settled and such. I still love it to bits though.

I've got the same. I have actually sent outsome invites in my time, but that was before I had 100 and they used to refill in a coupl of days anyway.
