katiefoolery: (Autumn)
[personal profile] katiefoolery
First the weather's cold.  I wear a long-sleeved shirt to work for the first time in months.  I think fondly of being inside by a fire (which I don't have) while it rains outside.

Then it's hot.  I wear thongs to work and actually turn the air-conditioner on towards the end of the day.

Then it's cold again.

Then hot.

I have this feeling that it must be Autumn...

Actually, I know it's Autumn (and not just because of the date), because the mornings are cold and silent, while the days are long and mostly sunny.  With Summer, the heat is fierce and unrelenting.  With Autumn, the heat is wistful.

Something waits in the corners.  The atmosphere is soundless and expectant.

Tomorrow, I head to Beechworth to spend a couple of days at my parents' place.  There, I will once again encounter that all-encompassing silence that only Beechworth offers.  Autumn will be shouting boldly there.

Silently.

It's not easy to do that.

I was going to make some comment about forcing the weather to do as we please, but in a sense we do with heaters and air conditioning, and going back, fires and (handheld) fans. Who knows, one day we might actually control the weather at the touch of a button, just like in Star Trek. I hope we don't do what they seemed to have done which was make the weather pleasant everywhere. Antarctica is meant to be cold....

Yes, you're right there - the weather is odd, but we do need it. I just wish it would make up its mind. :)

Oh, been meaning to mention, we're going on band camp to Beechworth this year! Which is sad, because we won't see Pepsi, the dog from th place we've been for the past three years :(

We're going to some place called Old Priory or something... Heard anything about it? (Heard of it?)

Lucky you, going to Beechworth for a band camp. We used to go to Milgrove or some Seventh Day Adventist camp in the Dandenongs. Not that I'm complaining - they were great. Enjoy the three hour drive to get there, won't you?

I don't know much about the priory, apart from the fact that it looks pretty. There's a site about it here (http://www.oldpriory.com.au/), if you feel like researching it.

It's a deceptive wistfulness, though. I'll burn in autumn but not summer, because I'll sit outside and enjoy the sun and forget how strong it is, even if it doesn't seem that way.

Enjoy Beechworth! Make sure to bring us back some pictures of buildings.

I shall! You know how much I like taking photos of buildings. It's a bit odd, really. Mind you, there are plenty there.

Yes - you mustn't forget your sunscreen in Autumn! That sun still has a sting.

Ahh sunscreen... thanks to our lovely environmental situations I wear sunscreen every day of the year that I step outside! :/

I have moisturiser with sunscreen in it, which means I only have to remember one thing instead of two. 'Tis quite handy.

So, do you regularly visit that particular souvenir site?

Once in a lifetime. It's difficult to find sites on thongs that aren't about underwear and I didn't want there to be any confusion about what I meant when I said was wearing thongs.

I suppose, the concept of 'thongs' probably brings other thoughts to other people's minds...

This is why I always want to make sure people know I'm talking about footwear and not anything else. ;)

Hey, sounds like overhere, but in reverse (of course lol)! The last couple of days we've had snow, hail, rain, sun, stormy winds, perfect calm.... you name it! Spring's coming, that's for sure! It's kind of cool to look outside and see the snow coming down heavily on blossoming trees ^_^

They certainly are transitional seasons, as though the weather's trying on all sorts of conditions before it settles on one it likes...

*chuckles* aye, they're fickle seasons ^_^. But fun!

That was just so nifty.

It is always so odd for me when you remind me that, while spring approaches here (despite the strange snow in the middle of March), autumn is closing in on you. Soon, you will be talking about sipping hot cocoa and needing to wear a scarf, while I will be looking forward to my summer without school and traveling in England. And yet, in this middling time between summer and winter for both of us, the weather and the seasons are similar.

That's just interesting.

It's bizarre, isn't it? It was odd to hear people talking about the cold and frosts and snow while I was enjoying the lovely beach scene on my layout. And it will feel just as strange to be shivering in the cold while everyone else is talking about their Summer holidays.

*nodnods!* The snow is finally almost completely melted here. I shall have to knit you a wooly hat or something.
