katiefoolery: (The open road awaits)

Every couple of days for the past week, my dad’s been ringing me and letting me know how cold it is up there in Beechworth.

“Minus four this morning!” he’ll say.  “But it got up to eight degrees later.”

Or,

“We had no water this morning because the pipes had frozen.”

To both of which (and all variations thereof), I say:

“Argh!”

Because I hate the cold.  I’ve often thought that this has much to do with the fact that I was born on the coldest day in the history of ever.  I never want to be that cold again.

Or something like that.

And yet, we’re still going up to Beechworth for the next two and a bit days, because it’s the school holidays and it’s the thing to do.  Even though I’m going to freeze.  And people will mock me.  This includes both of my parents and my Timothy, all of whom have absolutley no problems with being SO COLD YOU CAN’T MOVE BECAUSE YOUR JOINTS HAVE FROZEN.

And they think I’m the weird one, just because I like being warm.

I will see you all on Saturday, when I have vague hopes of having caught up on my writing quota.  Indeed, I have even vaguer (and more deluded) hopes of pulling ahead!  I think it’s the cold... it’s done something to my brain.

Mmmmmm hot water bottles. Hot chocca. Hot food. They never hold the same weight in the heat.

Good luck on the writing! And then not long after you get back i'll be down! *tap dances*

We'll just have to go for hot chocca while i'm down. Though i don't know if Emerald has that planned... don't tell me what she has planned, i'm still up for the surprise, i just don't know if we have time for this kind of thing.... :P

And you know what, laptops on lap are really really good :P all the more excuse for writing.

I do like that last one - my laptop does get lovely and warm when it's on my lap. But... no wireless network! Ah well, I suppose it would force me to do some more writing.

Hehe! I know what she's planning and I'm about to email her about some more stuff. For instance, I don't want you to miss out on a visit to Minotaur. You will be drooling for ages. :) And you'll be here in just a couple of days!

*tap dances* can't wait to come!

and, you know that spiffy writing poll you did a while ago? did you ever get around to compiling the answers. I'm just interested to see what everyone's written responses were, and i can't :( did you post up the answers somewhere, or did it get shuffled aside for the purpose of writing? or cheesecake? both of which are understandable :P

Oh yes, that. I keep forgetting about it and then I keep remembering it... I shall get those results up before the end of the holidays, I swear it!

How strange :S I was born on a 40 degree day, and I hate being hot. I like winter :)

Ah, my theory holds water! I much prefer Summer.

I was born in a heatwave, and love both Winter and Summer. Where's your theory now? ^_~

I can remember a rather humorous comment you made a few years ago about your family 'dancing around in t-shirts' while you sat and froze. Hehe. Have a marvellous time!

Well, it's quite true! They just dance about and stare at me because I'm huddled up in six layers right next to the fire. :) I did indeed have a plendiferous time, thank-you muchly.

*steals your weather*

It was cold, but I kept repeating to myself: "It could be snowing... It could be snowing..." I just to be grateful for the fact that it wasn't any colder than it actually was. That being said, I did spend a LOT of time right next to the fire.

Fires are quite nice for that, aren't they?

You can have our weather if you'll trade us some rain for it. ^_^

You sound like you'd get on with my mother, actually. She loathes cold with a passion (blames it on short school uniforms in New Zealand winters), and will be rugged up in five layers by the time it occurs tthe rest of the family that, why yes, it is a bit nippy, now that you mention it.

Have fun in Beechworth!

I can definitely identify with all of that! There's nothing like being nice and warm. Cold weather is evil.

First, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

Second, I'm the same - I like being warm. Paul loves being cold. I have to wear winter gear in the car all the time because - regardless of the temp outside - he has the air con on freezing when we're driving. He claims that if it's hot, he can't breath properly...bloody kiwis.

Thank-you muchly, good Min!

Yeah, those Kiwis are pretty weird. I'm shivering at the mere thought of driving around in Winter with the air-con on. Ack!

Oh yeah, it's been freezing here too! Your dad sounds like mine. Dad comes out every morning and tell us the minimum, which has been, so far, -7.8 .

Have a great break, rug up well and drink plenty of hot drinks! :-)

Ack, -7.8! That's just... really, really cold. Thankfully, it wasn't too cold while we were up there. My dad had written some of the cold temperatures on the calendar and I was reading them to myself, being quite thankful that it seemed to have warmed up a little since earlier in the month.

Ooh! I shall go and wait by the letter-box this instant! Well, I'll just keep an eye on it through the window, so I can stay nice and warm.

Stop taunting me with your sunny weather! I think someone stole the vibes on their way East.

Apparently something like 50% of women complain that they can't maintain correct body temperature, and as such they boil in the warm and freeze in the cool. I have no idea about the details, or the actual percentage, but its stupidly high. I think I have it.
The worst part about the cold is trying to get to sleep, methinks.

I'd hate that. The idea of not being able to keep warm send shivers down my spine (for good reason). Luckily, I think I just prefer warmer temperatures.

I agree with the bit about trying to get to sleep. I'm usually OK once the bed has warmed up, but I hate those five to ten minutes beforehand.

Luckily for me, tonight I am staying with Leigh, so I can snuggle up to him for warmth. Except for my feet, because Leigh has special toenails.

Heh, learn to knit and make yourself a nice, warm sweater ^_~
Happy Birthday!

Well, I know how to knit, I'm just too lazy to commit myself to that! :D

Thanks for the birthday wishes!

*chuckles* Well, then who's fault is it you don't have a lovely warm sweater for those cold winter days, hmm? ^_~
