Thank-you!

Today, I would like to thank the Australian government for giving me money.  Huzzah!  I like it when you give, rather than taking away.  This more than justifies the advance spending I did on all that manga.  Actually, it might even signal that some more buying is in order...  I mean, seriously - if we have to choose between gifting my Timothy with a new computer or me with more manga, then what's more important?

Or I could just be a little bit addicted.

The other thank-you goes to [livejournal.com profile] lj_releases for alerting me to the fact that I can use image placeholders on my friends page.  A double huzzah for you!  No longer do I have to worry about large, un-cut images distorting my layout or sucking up my download limit at work.  'Tis wonderful indeed.

In other news, I shall soon be attempting to convert my layout to S2, which means the current one may look either a) exactly the same, b) totally hideous, or, c) incredibly default-ish.

Yes, it entirely justifies the buying of manga. I cannot see any other reason why the government would give you money except to buy more manga.

it's a manga conspiracy, i tells ye.

Why are you moving to S2, one wonders? Or is it simply because you want to give it a go?

Yes, me either. It seems they just want me to go out and buy more and who am I to argue with that? Of course, I think my Timothy might want to argue with that...

I'm moving to S2 mostly because I want to use tags. LJ still hasn't seen fit to offer a tag view to people coding in S1, so we're stuck with that hideous default thing, which doesn't seem fair.

So it's the OCD kicking in again, isn't it? :P

mind you, that tag view is shocking, but i'm chosing to ignore it considering that i don't do many tags...

It's mostly because I want to post my FictionPress story here instead. I'd forgotten how much FP could annoy me, what with not being able to use certain characters and not being able to simply access your file and update it. If I do that, I'd like to be able to tag the chapters so they're easily accessible and I want it to look nice. Because I like things to look nice. I'm not obsessive. Not really. It just looks that way. :)

I knew there was a way to get LJ to cut images that screw your layout! (or at least turn them into a link)

:D

I'm leaving s2 alone for a while :D it needs some time to devote to unravelling the extreme geekspeak :P

It's it splendid? And you can also use a placeholder for YouTube and other video thingies. Although, I do think it's a bit sad that I squeed over this once I implemented it. But it's just so plendiferous! My work download limit will be most thankful indeed. :)

I'm hoping I can do everything I want with CSS, which I'm very happy with. I just need to find which layout to base it on and how to manipulate stuff. Hopefully that'll be enough but if I have to code S2 from scratch, then I might as well give it a try. *panics*

oooh manga! What do you like to read? You must share! I confess, I read mostly scanlations, as I am poor, and alot of the stories I love aren't offically translated yet. But I would LOVE to one day buy all my favourite stories, because nothing beats the real thing instead of stairing at a computer screen.

At the moment, I'm starting off with Fullmetal Alchemist, InuYusha and Bleach and then we'll see how it goes from there. I read the scanlations online, too, mostly to see what I like so I can go and buy it later. It's definitely much more pleasant than staring at the computer screen. :)

What do you like to read? Do you have any recommendations?

As a fellow manga junkie, I can heartily recommend Bizenghast by M. Alice LeGrow, Godchild by Kaori Yuki and, for something light and hilarious, Saiyuki by someone whose name I've forgotten.

It's ridiculously addictive. How does one stop? Is it possible to stop? I think I'm going to be addicted forever. :D

I alternate between manga addiction and amazon.co.uk addiction. Sometimes they both hit me at the same time. *patpats poor, abused bank account*

I find that manga and Amazon go hand in hand, really. I really wish there were an Australian Amazon right now. Then I wouldn't have to wait until the end of the month for my goodies to arrive. Also, the shipping wouldn't quite as prohibitive.

No more huge whopping images that people don't seem to understand should go behind a cut warping my FList ? Oh joy of all joys ! Is it an automatic thing now or do I have to do something ?

It's wonderful! If you go to your Viewing Options screen (http://www.livejournal.com/manage/settings/) and scroll down about half way, you'll see the place where you can choose to put image placeholders on. You even have options! You either have none, all, images over 320x240 (which I've selected) or images over 640x480. You can do the same thing for embedded content like YouTube links, too. It's great when LJ introduces something that is actually incredibly useful. :)

I've been a paid user for 3 years and I still haven't managed to get around to designing a layout for me! :-(
But incidentally, you have inspired me; my goal for my two weeks off is to write nearly 1000 words PER DAY! Might as well go for broke, eh? With no job and nothing but time and no money to do anything crazy I might as well catch up on my writing! I plan to continue writing while my son and I are away at camp as well, I just can't manage a thousand words per day by hand... ::grimaces at the memory of hand cramps past::

Well, sometimes it can be a real hassle to design your own layout. I only do a new one every couple of months or when it gets to the point where I just can't stand looking at the one I'm using at the time.

What a plendiferous writing challenge, though! Do you know what you're going to be working on, or will you just decide from day to day? I think you're very wise to scale back the amount of words when switching to hand-writing. My other problem would be trying to decipher said hand-writing once I returned to the computer...

It's a novel that has been in the works for nearly two years now. The idea has become more and more clear to me, and the entire project has evolved a lot, so it'll be interesting to see where it takes me. I plan to work on it for the first two weeks, and then maybe just see what I feel like writing when at camp- it's way out in the middle of nowhere and on a lake in the woods, so I may feel like writing poetry. :-)
My handwriting is pretty terrible, I have to admit. I really wish I could type exams rather than attempting to handwrite them- my hand cramped up in 8 minutes this past Tuesday when I was writing my final for a film class.
I'm hoping that I'll get some energy back through this, to be honest- I've been at the end of my rope for months and I'm physically and mentally exhausted. It's either this or I go crazy. :-)
