Oh well...

So, it turns out my Timothy-of-the-heads doesn’t like the things I've been writing of late.  This is (rather frustratingly) both a good thing and a bad thing.

It’s good because I’ve always had a sneaking suspicion that he said he liked my writing out of some sort of obligation.  You know, if you’re married to someone, then you might as well pretend you enjoy the stories and assorted fiction they produce...  So the up side of this whole situation is that I can kiss that worry good-bye.  He does have the ability to tell me when he doesn’t like my stuff.

On the down side, it’s more than a little unfortunate, because this is the way I write now.  This is what I write now.  And I’m as surprised as anyone.  I thought I’d finished with changing my writing style once I stopped being a teenager.  Back then, I was liable to start a story one month and be completely incapable of continuing the next, due to the drastic changes in my writing as I grew up.

But I had been under the impression that this had settled down... until I started writing those fifteen minute ficlets.  So now I have a new style of writing and a Timothy who doesn’t seem to like said new style of writing.

*sigh*

On the up side, there’s only ONE DAY TO GO until the LorFers come down to Melbourne and we can celebrate the new year in style!  Or, you know, with sherbet lemons or something.

What doesn't he like about it? Just curious?

Aw, that's too bad, Katie dear. I still adore your writing. =3 But it's certainly good that he's able to give you honest input, ya?

Thank-you! I'm very glad to hear that. :D

Yes - it is good that he can tell me when he doesn't like stuff. Now I can stop worrying that he's just saying nice things to avoid upsetting me. He might actually mean them! :P

I'm not sure - I haven't gone as far as to ask him that. Even though I'm glad he can be honest with me, it still hurt a bit so I haven't summoned up the courage to ask that yet.

Well, personally, I always thought sherbet lemons to be the height of sophistiction...

Oh yes indeed! I'm very much hoping Flit doesn't forget to bring some.

*nods* It's surprising how your writing can change. I've even noticed here, on your LJ, that the way you 'speak' has changed over the past few months.

Really? Even over the past few months? That's certainly something to ponder.

I actually think it's sort of since you became more interested in manga/anime. Which really is something to ponder... Can you tell someone's fandom from the way they talk on their online journal, even if they don't necessarily mention said fandom ALL the time?

But never fear, we will always love you no matter what you write like or about!

*runs around like a loon*

[livejournal.com profile] funaga is right! Your writing style has changed! It's hard to put a finger on what exactly - maybe the tone, many of your posts are more reflective than ususal.

*hugs*

I definitely noticed a difference when I went back and tagged all those old entries from 2004. It was amazing to see how much my posts have changed in just over two years.

*also runs around like a loon*

I finished all my shopping today! Everyone has lovely presents (I hope!) and I purchased a lovely new travelling bag, as my other one broke on the way back from Beechworth. It's all very goot!

Oops! Oh well, like you said, at least it's good to know he will give an honest opinion. That's something, right? And I'm sure you'll change your writing again, when it comes to that. Some he'll like, some he won't *shrugs*. Such is the way of life ^_~

You sure it's your writing style he's having issues with, or is it the content? My sigfig sometimes doesn't like what I'm writing 'cause it's just not his taste, even though he can still appreciate my tiny ability to write. Heh. It's good that your guy can tell you honestly his feelings on it. Still, maybe he should come back to see what it is about your writing that he doesn't particularly enjoy and what about it he does so you can put it into perspective. :)

Timothy can be comforted in knowing that this is not the only way you can write, and 15-minute-ficlets are a good exercise in getting ideas for future, longer works.

I have honestly considered taking up similar exercises in order to fend off the I-have-to-write-an-entire-chapter-and-this-book-must-be-written-in-order-dammit-OMG rut I seem to have gotten into.

Have fun at the LorF get-together!

Why is there a random "be" in my comment? *looks puzzled*

to be a random be or to not be a random be....

Why that is the question!

I don't know but I like it. It's as though your comment is saying to me "Don't worry, just be". It's rather nice, really.

That's very true, although I have to admit that the style is rather carrying over into my longer works too. Ah well, I'm sure it'll settle down soon.

I can certainly recommend the ficlets for the reasons you're thinking of trying them. It really frees up your writing and I think it gives you some confidence back, too. But you don't have to write things in order! The last thing I wrote (and one of the things I'm currently writing) were all over the place. Last scenes written first, first scenes written half-way through. Scenes I just wanted to write were written whenever I wanted to... It's rather liberating, really.

Thank-you, I shall definitely have fun!

That made me curious, too. It's interesting. Perhaps a message from God?

I dont think that your comment "this is the way i write now" is strictly true, there was definately a difference between the first ficlet you did, which i really liked, and the last couple of Ficlets that were DbZ themed. I just couldnt get into the dragonball ones, there just wasnt anything happening, but there was a story in the first one...

The Idea

Ms. Foolery,

I love the idea of fiteen minutes to write an entire piece of fiction. A quick short story and if they aren't based on any fan fiction, that is how I would collect them. (If I were you, of course.)

You could even center it around one character; perhaps a set of daydreams or a specific set of events.

Right, I'm going to stop with the suggestions. I just found myself sparked by the original idea!

Best Wishes,
Ally

It's great fun! And I thought it would be harder to write a complete story in that time than it actually is.

You should have a look at the [livejournal.com profile] 15minuteficlets community if you're interested in doing some yourself. They have some great weekly prompt words.

That's splendid that you've been inspired by your idea! I hope you have fun writing it. :)
