Oh well...
Dec. 29th, 2006 09:16 amSo, it turns out my Timothy-of-the-heads doesn’t like the things I've been writing of late. This is (rather frustratingly) both a good thing and a bad thing.
It’s good because I’ve always had a sneaking suspicion that he said he liked my writing out of some sort of obligation. You know, if you’re married to someone, then you might as well pretend you enjoy the stories and assorted fiction they produce... So the up side of this whole situation is that I can kiss that worry good-bye. He does have the ability to tell me when he doesn’t like my stuff.
On the down side, it’s more than a little unfortunate, because this is the way I write now. This is what I write now. And I’m as surprised as anyone. I thought I’d finished with changing my writing style once I stopped being a teenager. Back then, I was liable to start a story one month and be completely incapable of continuing the next, due to the drastic changes in my writing as I grew up.
But I had been under the impression that this had settled down... until I started writing those fifteen minute ficlets. So now I have a new style of writing and a Timothy who doesn’t seem to like said new style of writing.
*sigh*
On the up side, there’s only ONE DAY TO GO until the LorFers come down to Melbourne and we can celebrate the new year in style! Or, you know, with sherbet lemons or something.

on 2006-12-28 10:53 pm (UTC)Yes - it is good that he can tell me when he doesn't like stuff. Now I can stop worrying that he's just saying nice things to avoid upsetting me. He might actually mean them! :P

I finished all my shopping today! Everyone has lovely presents (I hope!) and I purchased a lovely new travelling bag, as my other one broke on the way back from Beechworth. It's all very goot!

I have honestly considered taking up similar exercises in order to fend off the I-have-to-write-an-entire-chapter-and-this-book-must-be-written-in-order-dammit-OMG rut I seem to have gotten into.
Have fun at the LorF get-together!

on 2006-12-29 09:48 pm (UTC)I can certainly recommend the ficlets for the reasons you're thinking of trying them. It really frees up your writing and I think it gives you some confidence back, too. But you don't have to write things in order! The last thing I wrote (and one of the things I'm currently writing) were all over the place. Last scenes written first, first scenes written half-way through. Scenes I just wanted to write were written whenever I wanted to... It's rather liberating, really.
Thank-you, I shall definitely have fun!

on 2007-01-06 03:43 am (UTC)I love the idea of fiteen minutes to write an entire piece of fiction. A quick short story and if they aren't based on any fan fiction, that is how I would collect them. (If I were you, of course.)
You could even center it around one character; perhaps a set of daydreams or a specific set of events.
Right, I'm going to stop with the suggestions. I just found myself sparked by the original idea!
Best Wishes,
Ally

That's splendid that you've been inspired by your idea! I hope you have fun writing it. :)
