But I don’t like Winter...

I keep finding reasons to like Winter.
This is rather disturbing.
I Do Not Like Winter. It is cold and miserable and I spend all of my time dreaming of Summer and of not wearing a million layers of clothing or having to cope with one’s stupid umbrella breaking in the stupid wind when one needs it for protection against the stupid rain.
But, on the other hand...
In Winter, I get to wear gloves and that means I don’t have to touch metal door-handles or poles on the bus with my bare skin. This is quite a boon for someone who can’t stand the feel of metal.
In Winter, I get to wear lovely warm coats, such as the wool and cashmere one I bought for my birthday. It’s incredibly warm and, as an added bonus, it makes me look ridiculously slim. (As an added added bonus, I got five dollars off the price because one of the buttons was missing and later found said button in one of the pockets.)
Oh, and in Winter, I get to wear boots. Oh, the boots. I have such a problem there. I won’t go into that any further.
As if this sudden gratitude for cold weather wasn’t bad enough, it took a turn for the worse the other day. I’d just been on a trip to the supermarket across the road in the freezing cold winds of icy doom and I stepped back inside. My normal reaction upon doing this is to run up to the door behind which the central heating unit resides and shower it with mushy praise and protestations of undying love. The other day? I stepped inside and thought: Hmm... it’s a bit too warm in here.
*despairs*
Despite this sudden rather worrying... fondness for cold weather, I still managed to enjoy my birthday. It was helped along by some amazing people and their equally amazing generosity. My evil twin,
the_kaytinator, sent me a delightful parcel of goodies (the scarf is so warm);
etherealdeva and
charliemc gave me birthday vgifts; and
linnet_101 was very understanding when I accidentally responded to her birthday sms with a single asterisk. And so many other people did lovely things for me and I’m so grateful for it. Thank you all. :D

on 2007-06-25 11:38 am (UTC)I know what you mean about winter. I love curling up in my doona and feeling warm in my overcoat when I have to brace against the cold...but generally I don't like cold weather.

on 2007-06-25 12:30 pm (UTC)I certainly enjoy spending a lot of time standing near the central heating vents in our house... and that's something I can't do in Summer. I suppose Winter does have little joys after all. :)

on 2007-06-25 12:04 pm (UTC)But I don't like waking up and finding that every bit of the sheets is freaking freezing and every tiny move is a lesson in cold.

on 2007-06-25 12:31 pm (UTC)Winter brings storms. And the excuse to have flannel sheets. And a heater toasting one's legs. :D

on 2007-06-25 12:37 pm (UTC)Winter certainly brings lots of excuses to stay inside. But I haven't had flannel sheets since I was little. :( They're so delicious warm, aren't they? I really need to invest in some new ones...

on 2007-06-25 12:55 pm (UTC)Haha, it's winter where you are. =P I will send you some of this icky humid heat Freiburg is having. I'd rather it be cold than warm: You can keep adding layers, but there's only so many you can take off. :D

on 2007-06-25 02:08 pm (UTC)So, winter...there are things I like about it, too - warm bowls of soup, ice skating, the sound the snow makes when you crunch through the sparkly layer on top, the shimmer of ice on tree branches, the frost that forms on the horses' muzzles when they come to the fence for their warm water and yummies...
But I so muchly prefer summer!!!
*loving this hot weather in Missouri!*

on 2007-06-26 01:19 am (UTC)Ack, noo!! I think you've been spending too much time appreciating winter :P Though I like wearing gloves too..it means I have no skin-to-skin contact with public transport :S

on 2007-06-26 07:09 am (UTC)And yes, I think I have. I bet I'll have changed my tune once I get back from my trip to Canberra in the middle of the holidays. It's going to be so coooooollllld...

I love winter - I love them warm coats, and yummy boots, and roaring fires and the sensation of being rugged up snug and warm. However, if you *can't* get the warm coats, or the yummy boot... If you *can't* find a roaring fire, and your body simply refuses to be snug and warm, regardless of how rugged up you are, then I can understand that winter might be a bit dreary...

I'm the freak in my family, because of my love of hot weather. Everyone else loves the cold. And now I think they've infected me...

Seconded. Eeps. Glad you had muchly fun :)
I like Winter. At least it's actually a proper season here, unlike this fake Summer we're having at the moment. Flooding and stormy evilness is not my idea of Summer. Although, I suppose after enduring 21 British summers I shouldn't really expect anything else from this one. But I do. Obviously.

on 2007-06-27 09:50 pm (UTC)I hope your Summer starts to improve. It still has a couple of months to go... you never know - it might come to its senses and start being warm and sunny instead of stormy and floody.

we'd bark ourselves.
