katiefoolery: (Back to work)

Oh yes, I am possessed of sheep-like qualities today.  Since it's been over a month since I posted anything here, I figured I'd get back into the LJ world with... a meme.  Of course.

Leave a comment and I will:
a) Tell you why I friended you.
b) Associate you with something: fandom, a song, a colour, a photo, etc.
c) Tell you something I like about you.
d) Tell you a memory I have of you.
e) Ask something I've always wanted to know about you.
f) Tell you my favorite user pic of yours.

Next to come: photos of the new house.

You're back! I missed your entries! Where have you been? XD

Look forward to seeing the photos -- hope the move went well.

And yeah! Go for it :D

I've been lurking about lurkishly. :D The move went spectacularly well, thank-you. I wanted to post pics earlier, but cameras were determined to thwart me. I prevailed in the end, thankfully.

a) I friended you because you listed "Shaun Micallef" as an interest and I thought that showed you had spectacularly good taste, as well as a sense of humour.
b) I associate you with anything bizarre that happens in the world of politics.
c) I love your sense of humour - your posts usually manage to make me laugh... unless they're serious or something, in which case it would be kinda cruel and insensitive to laugh. I also suffer from incredible jealousy over your hair - it's so amazingly curly. *laments own straight hair*
d) Often, when I'm out walking, I think of your story of meeting a cat and squeeing over it, only to be scared out of your wits by a random passer-by... usually when I've just caught myself singing along to my music or something. We must be CONSTANTLY VIGILANT for random passers-by who are likely to catch us doing something daft.
e) Which crazy country are you going to visit next? (After Uganda or wherever it is you're going.)
f) I can't choose a favourite userpic of yours because I spend too much time laughing and sniggering at the keywords and comments.

I'm glad to hear the move went well!

And please, take my hair. You're very welcome to it.

Hee -- thank you :D

After Uganda I'm not too sure -- we're investigating the possibility of a round-the-world ticket, but if that doesn't work out we'll be going to Egypt and then to Germany :)

Oh wow! you've got a new layout! Love the background to death. The textures are ridiculously pretty! where did you find them?

on 2008-05-09 12:42 pm (UTC)
Posted by [identity profile] katiefoolery.livejournal.com
Indeed I do have a pretteh new layout! It's another slightly-edited stylesheet from [livejournal.com profile] refuted and I quite likes it. The pattern came from this site (http://www.dinpattern.com/index.php), which I found in a completely incidental way.

And since you commented...
a) I believe I friended you due to your LorFish inclinations. Or I was collecting my favourite Ober.netters. Although that's pretty much the same thing, since I believe most of my favourite Ober.netters are those with LorFish inclinations.
b) I associate you with left shoes. You're shocked, I know.
c) Something I like about you. Hmm... you don't smell as bad as Kayt. :D Nah, I like the way you throw yourself into things, heart and soul.
d) I remember you cooking delicious things in my house. That box is still there, you know, although you may have to fight Rigel for it.
e) ...I fail at long-term curiosity. Instead, I shall come up with a question out of the blue: If you could have only one of your stories published, which would it be and why?
f) I love that Vieve icon. A true genius must have made that one... :D Actually, I'm very fond of the icon you made for [livejournal.com profile] the_eurovasion journal. It's adorable.

on 2008-05-09 04:09 pm (UTC)
Posted by [identity profile] flippyfrog.livejournal.com
But Rigel doesn't cook like I cook! and I don't know about your new kitchen, it won't have nearly the same kitsch charm are your last one. How can I cook with no pumpkin orange benches or brown detailing?

To answer your question I would want Insula published. That's an easy question... actually, no, it's not. Part of me also wants my superhero one to take pride of place because it's far less serious, and the idea of having something in the market that is set in Canberra with superheroes cracks me up a lot more. But, if it was only one I have to look at the book that I think says more about me and I hope would make more of an impact. Also the one I've spent the most time on. I suppose if it's only one it's all about what you want to be remembered for, and I hope Insula is the right voice.

on 2008-05-10 01:09 am (UTC)
Posted by [identity profile] katiefoolery.livejournal.com
The new kitchen's kinda bland and lacking in kitsch, I'm afraid. I could always put up seventies-inspired curtains or something, if that would help.

I figured you'd choose Insula and I'm intrigued to hear your reasons why. It's a good choice.

Indeed, sheep are most useful. :D

a) Friended you because of the Ober.net connection, your writerliness and the fact that you have very good taste in books.
b) I associate you with fairytales.
c) I like your dedication to your writing career. You're constantly writing; constantly improving; constantly striving... and I admire that greatly.
d) Probably one of my favourite memories of you is when your story was accepted to Aurealis, because I decided to live it vicariously. :D
e) I would be interested to know if you prefer living in the city over the country, or vice versa. Or perhaps you like both?
f) I like the one with the girl sitting on the ground, surrounded by glowing... stuff. It's intriguing.

Oh, argh. *Stares self-pityingly at the last four weeks spent ignoring the novel and fiddling around with unfinished manga fanfic.*

Probably one of my favourite memories of you is when your story was accepted to Aurealis, because I decided to live it vicariously. :D

Oh my god, I don't think I've ever been so excited about something writing related. I want to be that excited again.

I would be interested to know if you prefer living in the city over the country, or vice versa. Or perhaps you like both?

I do like both, but I don't intend to end up in the city, ultimately. It's difficult, though, because I've been here since before I turned eighteen, so every friend I've ever made as an adult is ... well, either here or in some other city where I never see them anyway. Not in the northern New South Wales rainforest, anyway.

I like the one with the girl sitting on the ground, surrounded by glowing... stuff. It's intriguing.

Thank you! That was one of the very first icons I made, on my very brief icon making career. It's paper - she's sitting on the floor in an absorbed mess of paper. I just coloured it to make it visible.

___

Since turnabout is fair play:

a) I can basically say "Ditto" on this one.
b) I associate you with chickens. Also superheroes, which sounds a bit cooler.
c) I like your grammar nazism; it always makes me smile and nod in approval, even on the rare points where I disagree :-)
d) I remember reading your unfinished superhero novel, and really getting a sense of what a good writer you were, for the first time.
e) I know you've been readjusting your goals lately, between writing and editing and career and the rest of it. What's the ideal end-point at the moment?
f) Betas Make It Better; no contest :D

on 2008-05-10 10:00 am (UTC)
Posted by [identity profile] katiefoolery.livejournal.com
I love the coloured paper in that icon (moreso now I know what it is). It's as though she's surrounded by ideas that only need to be picked up and read for them to burst into glorious life.

And you can fix your future-in-the-country dilemma easily: just make sure you end up in a cosy house with plenty of room for guests. Then you can invite all of your city friends to stay for a week or two and escape the city stress while spending some quality time with you.

My other choice for association was actually the superhero story, since you're the only other person who's read it thus far and your comments are always in my mind whenever I go back to the story.

That's a tricky question and I'm not even sure I have an answer. All I know right now is that I don't want to stay in libraries. I can't stay in libraries or I shall go utterly insane. So my ideal end-point at this stage would be anything that's not in a library. The original reason for becoming a library technician was to give me a chance to be surrounded by books while I wrote... but now my writing time seems to have been consumed by editing (which I don't mind at all). And it seems to me that I don't need to be surrounded by books to write, so why not find a place where I can have a career, rather than staying in such an incredibly static and mostly unrewarding job?

The trick is just finding out where I actually want to be.

Helloes! I hope everything's OK with you. :)

a) You were one of my first LJ friends! In fact, I found LJ through you and another friend from FictionPress.
b) I associate you with cats used as projectiles. :D
c) I like the way you write and the humour that pervades your writing.
d) For some reason, I always remember your saying that writers shouldn't become accountants. This has ensured that I haven't been in any way tempted to take advantage of the apparent shortage of CPAs, despite the funky ads they keep showing in between movie previews at the cinema.
e) I'm going to be boring and ask you the same qustion I asked [livejournal.com profile] flippyfrog: If you could have only one of your stories published, which one would it be and why?
f) As for userpics, I'm rather fond of the one you used here.

Things are good! I will likely be moving as well here, in like two months. oO Hate that process. *bounce*

Also, I must still your meme. ^____^

a. AWWW! =3 I wish I could remember how I found LJ. XD
b. *wriggles* Cuz it's funny?
c. *more wriggling* Careful, I may start blushing.
d. XD!!! Shortage of CPAs? Sounds like a bad crop year. =3 I still stand by that idea, even thought I now find myself having to pursue said license. *bleh*
e. Well, obviously, HHNF because I adore all my characters SO SO MUCH. But, it's fast losing ground to my current work which is winning on so many levels. =3 I still love Kai and Dek, however. So it's a hard choice.
f. *cackles* I love my AT-AT headdesk. Best one out there, methinks.

And Hello! Good to see a random LJ post from you, Katie!

Hehe, thanks! That would be Chicken Run, made by the creators of the Wallace and Gromit series. :)

a) I friended you because you're you. :D Also, you write some of the best fic ever.
b) OK, this could be kinda weird, but I associate you with contractions written out: "I am" instead of "I'm". Don't ask me why. I have a strange brain.
c) I like what you bring to any discussion or event. If you're there, I know it's going to be fun and open-minded and possibly just the tiniest bit smutty. :D
d) I remember you and Pix at one of the Salon parties. Probably one of the best parties ever. :D
e) Heh, I suck at the question-asking part of this meme. Uhhh... I guess I've often wondered where your username "Macha" comes from.
f) My favourite userpic of yours is probably your default one. I love the way that innocent phrase is referring to something dangerous and deadly.

Thanks for the reminder! I kept getting 'Gromit' in my head, but couldn't remember the Wallace part!

*preens* LOL...personally, it's probably a good thing I am me, and someone else isn't...or that there aren't two of me. O.o EEP!

Ah, the contractions thing. *grins* I don't contract when I want something to stand out so, there in would be the reason it has caught your attention. :P

Wow...C) You nailed it. :D I like fun, light and smut. If I could get away with more smut at the Salon and not offend or get kicked off, I would probably do so. :P

Those parties were great times! They also became a good point of contention at the Salon - when that happened I didn't find them as fun any more. :(

I tell everyone that asks that it is from my SCA name. In truth, my SCA name comes from something even further back that I don't care to tell over an open forum.

*grins* I don't have many user pics to choose from and now that I have had an interest in Saiyuki, even less of those are DBZ. I still like my DBZ though. I guess I understand the characters better, and the are more easy to write.

You caught my attention from all the reviewing. I kept thinking - when is this person going to realize this is a very dark story? Well, I ended up realizing you knew it was a very dark story, and continued to read it because it did have merits - other than being dark for the sake of being dark. *SQUISH* Thank you so much!

a) I friended you because SR is spectacular and Camelalottians should unite in foolery for ever more!
b) I associate you with crazy adventures, suits of armour and ridiculous advice. The colour orange. Also, lampshades. Nothing sensible, in short.
c) You are wonderfully creative and I am forever indebted to you (and Aixe) for starting that very first play. And I particularly like the way you view the world.
d) I remember having at least one msn conversation where we typed exactly the same thing at exactly the same moment many times. And the crazy adventures, of course.
e) Was Sir Gallivant your first alter-ego, or were there any others who came before?
f) As for favourite userpics, I couldn't possibly go past Aixe with a candelabra on her head.

a) I believe I friended you because you were a member of [livejournal.com profile] aussiewriters and I was collecting people who were writers (and Australian) at the time. Also, your posts amused and entertained me.
b) I associate you with pocketless pants and flying cows.
c) I like the way you make apparently random statements in your posts. Likewise, your use of understatement.
d) I have a memory of being vaguely in competition for a short story comp that I believe neither of us ended up entering anyway.
e) Are you ever thinking of starting up [livejournal.com profile] burgogun again?
f) Well, you don't give me much choice in userpics, so I'll go with the one that has the keyword "Speak", because I appreciate the irony of it.

b) I associate you with pink. :D
c) I like your enthusiasm for things - it's always very apparent in your posts and it's lovely.
d) Ack, I fail at the memory bit. I think I'm going to have to get to know you a little bit better. :)
e) You seem to like travelling, so I think my question to you would be: What place would you most like to visit and why?

a) I friended you because you're LorFish and full of win.
b) I associate you with many things. Every time I see a stethoscope on TV, I wonder if it's being worn the right way, thanks to you. Also, morphine.
c) You rock - that's what I like about you. :D Also, you're smart and witty and I love that.
d) Making crazy phone posts on LJ... that never actually made it to LJ. Which is probably a good thing.
e) Everyone already asked about the whole doctor/studying medicine thing... so I shall ask: What made you start writing?
f) My favourite icon is the Stewie, "Rue the day!" one. *luffs*

b) I associate you with mysterious, sciency, geological sort of stuff.
c) I like that very subtle sense of humour that runs under a lot of the things you write.
d) I remember your story about something exploding dramatically in your face and being amazed that you barely suffered for it.
e) I would like to know... what you find most rewarding or enjoyable about your job.
f) I love your "I'm a tiger" icon - so cute!

a) I think I friended you because I knew you as a splendid writer from FictionPress. And you have quite a whimsical style of journalling that appeals to me.
b) It's boring and predictable, I know, but I automatically associate you with New Zealand. Also hats, for some reason.
c) I like the fact that you give amazing feedback and concrit. It's been incredibly valuable to me on several occasions and I appreciate it very much.
d) I remember reading one of your stories and being amazed at the talent you displayed.
e) I don't believe I know what you are (or were) studying... so what are (or were) you studying? I would very much like to know.
f) Hehe, you don't really give me much choice in userpics.

a) I friended you because you're a DBZ fan (and I needed more DBZ people on my friends list) and also due to your arty and writey nature.
b) I associate you with gnomes, ever since you drew that picture.
c) I like your amazingly creative mind. :)
d) I remember seeing you on the news! Well, on a news report on the internet, anyway.
e) Meh, I suck at the question component of this meme. I shall ask... what's your dream job?
f) My favourite of your userpics is the screaming girls one. It's brilliant.

a) I friended you mostly because of your Ober.netness.
b) I think I shall always associate you with the colour pink and the destroyer pig.
c) The things I like most about you are your friendliness and enthusiasm.
d) I remember you writing an LJ post where you eliminated every instance of mbt... it didn't feel right, somehow.
e) I know you're studying something sciency, so I guess I'd like to know where that's headed. What do you want to be doing when you finally finish studying?

c) One thing I like about you: FOOD. DELICIOUS FOOD. Also: general rockingness.
d) Hehe, when I kicked you (totally by accident) the other day because it seriously made me laugh so hard I couldn't breathe. Not many people can manage to make that happen.
