katiefoolery: (Get your words out!)
[personal profile] katiefoolery
Happy new year to everyone! Quite frankly, 2008 was a little bit too sucky for my liking so I have great hopes for 2009. So far, it has gone thusly:
  • Celebrated.

  • Woke up at 7:30am due to cat. When staggering about, mostly asleep, to feed said cat, noticed that there was sunshine and blue sky outside and thought, Huzzah! 2009 is going to be lovely.

  • Slept in ever such a tiny bit and woke up to grey clouds and rain.

  • Ranted a bit about the weather. In my head, anyway. No-one ever really listens and it doesn't exactly achieve anything.

  • Ate breakfast at 2pm.

  • Panicked a wee about the prospect of vlogging AS EARLY AS NEXT WEEK HELP.

  • Failed to come to a consensus on whether antiwpa.dll is malware or not. Also failed to understand why it's on my computer, considering I have an official Windows sticker and an official Windows authentication code and official Windows installation CDs...

  • Twittered. Actually, all I did was sign up a Twitter account, but it's close enough

And then I wrote a list, apparently. Is anyone else out there Twittering? Let me know so I can stalk you in 140 words or fewer. Strangely, I'm Katiefoolery there.

The first of January also marks the start of [livejournal.com profile] getyourwordsout and I'm off to a slow start so far with my grand word count of zero. However, there are still some, oh, six and a half hours left of today and I'm sure I can manage a good thousand or so words by the time that's passed.

How's the new year going for everybody else?

I can has plot bunnies, that's how the year is going for me so far - thankfully! :) I need another nine hundred words, right, then I've done my quota for the day?

I am so glad I'm holidaying away from Melbourne, just for a little bit - the weather will always drive me crazy! Like. Is there another city where in the middle of summer it would be wise to pack a rain coat and hoodie? Really, Melbourne, really?

I just added you on twitter too - I'm theamorphous. :)

And following you in return! Not that I've managed to actually update myself at all so far. I'll get there.

Added you back!

Melbourne weather is driving me crazy. I was wearing a coat yesterday. A coat! That's not right. I almost wish I were staying with my parents in Beechworth or something. I mean, sure, it's kind of quiet and boring and there's only dial-up internet but at least it's sunny.

Are you doing the insanely huge quota? I'm only doing the pathetic-by-comparison 200,000 - so really, all I have to write is around 600 words or something but I'd rather go over. Huzzah for your plot bunnies! It's a pretty good start to have so many already.

Happy 2009 to you, too! I'm with you on the not-so-great 2008, so here's hoping for a super-fine 2009!

Vlogging? Vlogging? Tell me more!

Also: no words from me yet, either. Our guests (very enthusiastic guests) only left today, so I haven't had my chance to get my head around anything.

So following you on twitter right NOW.

Exactly! What is with that? It's summer! Not the middle of winter! I at least have mildly good broadband here, but I hate that there's nothing else here, BUT the internet. I work, go to the gym, sit on the computer. Not so good.

I am, yeah, doing the insanely huge quota. (Also... 200,000 is pretty damn impressive anyway!) And already regretting it. I am enjoying having a plot or two already though, because that's usually my biggest problem - I just have to get it to flesh out the way I want to, because I think if I do really well I could finally break the 10,000 words barrier I have. I fail at fleshing my stories out, that's all. Let's hope someone wants to read about my little dressage boys!

Welp, it's been 2009 for a grand total of three hours round these parts. I spent about an hour of it hanging out at MGM and waiting for the rabble to leave so I didn't get caught in the mass of 50,000 people leaving at once. Then I spent 30 minutes IN the mess getting back to my apartment. However, all of that time was spent with Boy and some of it was spent in Say Anything sing a long, so I can't complain. And now, now I am going to take more cold medicine and hopefully go to sleep. :p

I hope the rest of the day treats you well. ♥

Coincidence! I also had breakfast at 2pm. Clearly this is the omen of an excellent year, or, at least, that is what I wish for you.

I saw your name before your Twitter username when I saw my inbox and I said, Oh, Danielle! ...is on Twitter. And then I realised that your username is ohdanielle... and the synchronicity of it amused me. I just felt I had to tell you that story.

Ah, the vlogging. I was invited to do it by [livejournal.com profile] surferartchick and I said yes, because it sounded like fun... and it does sound like fun although I have a lot to learn and I need to somehow come to terms with the fact that I'm going to be posting videos of myself. On the net. Where people can hear and see them.

Eeep.

But also yay! :D

I hope you get a chance to write later on while you're enjoying a bit of quiet. :)

It's a pretty good time for breakfast, really.

At least you had a lot of company for those three hours so far. Probably more than you really wanted, but hey. And now I miss sing-alongs. If I'd been with my normal bunch of friends for new years, there would have been plenty of random singing-along. Ah well - next year.

It's been a pretty lazy, satisfying-type day so far. I hope yours goes well, too. :)

Don't forget to write a few words here and there... :D

Yes, but 350,000 is... so much! I'm going to be in total awe of everyone who achieves that. And I totally want to go over 200,000 if I possibly can, but I'll be happy just to reach that. That whole breaking-through-barriers thing is something I think the GYWO project will be good for - because you'll have all of those other people and two potentially evil mods to prod you and poke you to break through it. And once you have, nothing will hold you back!

What sort of stuff are you writing? Fanfic? Something epic?

on 2009-01-01 09:15 am (UTC)
Posted by [identity profile] kwalktown.livejournal.com
I'm writing Fanfic but having a Crisis of Morals. I have these every once in a while, only THIS ISN'T THE TIME, BRAIN! *shakesfist* Eugh.

I figured I'd just push myself to get as far as possible, and if I get there, I get there. If I don't, I don't, but I will have learned a lot along the way! Also, potentially evil? Get rid of the potential, we're in trouble! :D.

Happy New Year! We're just an hour and a half into 2009, but I'm feeling hopeful and happy. We've got a nasty rain and wind storm coming later today, but hopefully it won't dampen our new year spirits!

Hopeful and happy is definitely the way to be. :D The windstorm doesn't stand a chance against that.

Ah, that is the best story!! Tiny surprises of funniness like that totally make me smile :).

And I totally understand the "eep" of the video-posting idea -- but it sounds awesome all the same! :)

Did you get stuck into some writing?

Posted by [identity profile] katiefoolery.livejournal.com
I keep wondering why this shy individual thinks that vlogging is a good idea... but I do. It should be fun, once I get over the initial nervousness of it all. :D

I'm getting into the writing thing, although I'm still a bit tired and out of synch with the day (which is what happens when you sleep in until almost midday, I guess). How about you? Did you get a chance to write anything?

(I love your icon, by the way - you always seem to find the most interesting ones.)

A Crisis of Morals sounds a bit dire - definitely not good... unless you can somehow write about it. Sometimes you really have to wonder whose side our brains are actually on.

The awesome thing about January 1st is it is one of those days where you can get away with eating breakfast at 2pm.

And what's a Twitter when it's at home? I'm not very likely to join up, but I'm still curious.

I had the same thought when I was debating how much to pledge. I have no idea how much I'm capable of writing in a year's time -- I definitely want to go over 200k if it becomes feasible, but on the other hand I have no desire to set myself up for failure, so to speak.

Yeah, I still got a wordcount of 0. But I'm totally going to change that! Really!

Yes, exactly! I want to be positive about this and use it to encourage myself to really get back into writing rather than putting myself even further back. And you're always going to have days when you write nothing and others when you manage to write thousands of words without even trying... so it'll all balance out over the year.

Oh yes - especially when your brother and his fiancée visit you at 6:30pm and say No thanks, we won't eat - we just had lunch. It's definitely a day of screwed-up mealtimes. :D

Twitter's... a thing where you write little updates on what you're doing to share with all the people who are following you. And it really seems kinda pointless until you actually sign up and start getting into it, at which point it becomes a lot more fun. It's like a mix between updating your Facebook status and IMing.

Mine's been pretty lazy and a bit too cold for my liking. How many words are you writing for GYWO?

on 2009-01-02 01:24 am (UTC)
Posted by [identity profile] katiefoolery.livejournal.com
That's OK - there are totally three hundred and sixty something days left in which you can change it. And if you give up sleep, you'll have even more time to write! :D

I pledged the Basic 200K. I'm pretty sure I can make it; my problem is writing every dumb day. I'm planning, for the days I do write, to do more than 550 words, so the total will come out the same -- here's hoping!! :D

Do I remember right; that you're also pledging 200K? - or has New Year's and the GYWO insanity completely befuddled my head?

That's exactly right - 200,000 for me, too. You're not befuddled at all. :D And I'm doing the same - trying to write a bit more than the basic minimum to make up for the days when I can't write or I'm being particularly good at procrastinating.
