katiefoolery: (Get your words out!)

Happy new year to everyone! Quite frankly, 2008 was a little bit too sucky for my liking so I have great hopes for 2009. So far, it has gone thusly:
  • Celebrated.

  • Woke up at 7:30am due to cat. When staggering about, mostly asleep, to feed said cat, noticed that there was sunshine and blue sky outside and thought, Huzzah! 2009 is going to be lovely.

  • Slept in ever such a tiny bit and woke up to grey clouds and rain.

  • Ranted a bit about the weather. In my head, anyway. No-one ever really listens and it doesn't exactly achieve anything.

  • Ate breakfast at 2pm.

  • Panicked a wee about the prospect of vlogging AS EARLY AS NEXT WEEK HELP.

  • Failed to come to a consensus on whether antiwpa.dll is malware or not. Also failed to understand why it's on my computer, considering I have an official Windows sticker and an official Windows authentication code and official Windows installation CDs...

  • Twittered. Actually, all I did was sign up a Twitter account, but it's close enough

And then I wrote a list, apparently. Is anyone else out there Twittering? Let me know so I can stalk you in 140 words or fewer. Strangely, I'm Katiefoolery there.

The first of January also marks the start of [livejournal.com profile] getyourwordsout and I'm off to a slow start so far with my grand word count of zero. However, there are still some, oh, six and a half hours left of today and I'm sure I can manage a good thousand or so words by the time that's passed.

How's the new year going for everybody else?

I can has plot bunnies, that's how the year is going for me so far - thankfully! :) I need another nine hundred words, right, then I've done my quota for the day?

I am so glad I'm holidaying away from Melbourne, just for a little bit - the weather will always drive me crazy! Like. Is there another city where in the middle of summer it would be wise to pack a rain coat and hoodie? Really, Melbourne, really?

I just added you on twitter too - I'm theamorphous. :)

Added you back!

Melbourne weather is driving me crazy. I was wearing a coat yesterday. A coat! That's not right. I almost wish I were staying with my parents in Beechworth or something. I mean, sure, it's kind of quiet and boring and there's only dial-up internet but at least it's sunny.

Are you doing the insanely huge quota? I'm only doing the pathetic-by-comparison 200,000 - so really, all I have to write is around 600 words or something but I'd rather go over. Huzzah for your plot bunnies! It's a pretty good start to have so many already.

Exactly! What is with that? It's summer! Not the middle of winter! I at least have mildly good broadband here, but I hate that there's nothing else here, BUT the internet. I work, go to the gym, sit on the computer. Not so good.

I am, yeah, doing the insanely huge quota. (Also... 200,000 is pretty damn impressive anyway!) And already regretting it. I am enjoying having a plot or two already though, because that's usually my biggest problem - I just have to get it to flesh out the way I want to, because I think if I do really well I could finally break the 10,000 words barrier I have. I fail at fleshing my stories out, that's all. Let's hope someone wants to read about my little dressage boys!

Yes, but 350,000 is... so much! I'm going to be in total awe of everyone who achieves that. And I totally want to go over 200,000 if I possibly can, but I'll be happy just to reach that. That whole breaking-through-barriers thing is something I think the GYWO project will be good for - because you'll have all of those other people and two potentially evil mods to prod you and poke you to break through it. And once you have, nothing will hold you back!

What sort of stuff are you writing? Fanfic? Something epic?

I'm writing Fanfic but having a Crisis of Morals. I have these every once in a while, only THIS ISN'T THE TIME, BRAIN! *shakesfist* Eugh.

I figured I'd just push myself to get as far as possible, and if I get there, I get there. If I don't, I don't, but I will have learned a lot along the way! Also, potentially evil? Get rid of the potential, we're in trouble! :D.

A Crisis of Morals sounds a bit dire - definitely not good... unless you can somehow write about it. Sometimes you really have to wonder whose side our brains are actually on.

Exactly. Why can't I just agree with myself all the time?

I swear I'm not mad xD.

I had the same thought when I was debating how much to pledge. I have no idea how much I'm capable of writing in a year's time -- I definitely want to go over 200k if it becomes feasible, but on the other hand I have no desire to set myself up for failure, so to speak.

Yes, exactly! I want to be positive about this and use it to encourage myself to really get back into writing rather than putting myself even further back. And you're always going to have days when you write nothing and others when you manage to write thousands of words without even trying... so it'll all balance out over the year.
