katiefoolery: (Queen Pickle)

Well, I was going to say that not much is happening in my life, but it's not really true.  For instance, my Timothy is still at home because the battery in our car has died and Bindi is across the road at the doctor's, because she keeps getting dizzy spells.  Further to Bindi's woes, her car has blown its head gasket and the mechanic has advised her to buy a new car, rather than spending one thousand dollars on repairs.

In slightly less miserable news, I went to yet another Ober.net meet on Saturday and had a most plendiferous time discussing LorF matters with Emerald ([livejournal.com profile] emerald85) and Lauren from Queensland ([livejournal.com profile] lauren_hedgehog).  Photos from this can be found here.

Further photographical offerings come in the form of my baby praying mantis, which is now grown up and measuring beyond ten centimetres.

Here's the baby
A Baby Praying Mantis

And here's the adult.
A praying mantis, all grown up

It's a little hard to see much difference, but the baby was about three centimetres long and no wider than about four milimetres.  The adult is three or four times the length and about 1.5 centimetres across at the base of its body.

Still incredibly creepy-looking, of course.

And finally, I am happy to report that Pickle is now adoring the header of a pet sitter's website.  The person who made the site found this photo of Pickle, which I'd uploaded to stock.xchng and asked if he could use it in the header.  Well, I knew it would only swell Pickle's head, but I agreed and she is now relaxing quite happily at the top of this website.

This is all for now.

I know! She already thinks she's the most fantastic cat in the world; this would only confirm that opinion.

Mind you, she is really cute.

oh my goodness! I am so sorry! How thoughtless of me....

Please apologise to the beautiful Pickle for my thoughtless slip up.

Brings me back to when I raised some monarch butterflies from eggs. It was quite the experience.

I imagine it was! Butterflies are much prettier than the old praying mantis.

It was certainly interesting weather. One minute it was warm, the next it was chilly. But that's Melbourne weather for you, really. I dressed for it by wearing boots, a long skirt... and a t-shirt. You learn to prepare for all sorts of weather when you live in Melbourne. :D

Naaaw, what a gorgeous cat! And rightly bound for internet stardom. We are receiving our adopted cat Basil this coming weekend and I am rather hoping to post similar naaaw-inducing pics. And put his profile on www.catster.com.

I love naaaw-inducing pics! And thanks for the link to Catster; I think I'll be uploading some pics of Pickle there very soon.

Sorry for the plural there. PICKLE, singular!

The older praying mantis looks darker in colour, and the abdomen looks straighter, though that may just be due to angle.

It's a mixture of angle and sunlight and everything. When it was a baby, it was standing on the paving bricks in the backyard and it was a lovely, bright Summer's day. The adult version is hanging off the bricks on the garage wall in overcast conditions. Unfortunately, you really can't appreciate how small the baby version was, because I managed to get so close to it. I couldn't get quite as close to the adult.

Add a tape measure to all your photos. You can always crop it out later, but then you can give your viewers a sense of measurement. Or place your keycard next to whatever you are photographing, as you are more likely to have that on you than a measuring tape.

I feel as tho i'm addicted to commenting on your pieces Bunne... everyone else does it, so i feel compelled to follow... i really don't have anything to say because i've already complimented the Pickle on her modelling career... and yet, i'm still commenting

*shrugs*

I don't know how to explain this... :P

Well, as long as it's keeping you occupied... and not taking too much attention away from the ever-important business of LorF.

Aw, PIckle! You've managed to get her to work and earn her living at last, I see. ;)

How come and she leaves the mantis alone?

Hehe! If only the photo had earned some money... Then again, I use dozens of free photos from stock.xchng, so I'm not going to complain.

Pickle's an indoor cat, so the best she could do is just watch the mantis from her window.

'Cause she's mine! We love her to bits. She's so snuggly now that the cooler weather is coming on. :)
