What is this?

It's finally here!

What could it be?  It couldn't... be our new bed, could it?  It's a little hard to tell when the picture's so small, so perhaps, just to make sure, we should take a look at some more pictures...

It's finally here!

You know, I think it is our bed.  On Monday, I had a reached a point where I firmly believed our bed was never going to arrive.  However, after four weeks of sleeping on a mattress on the floor, we finally have a real bed again!  We can sleep on a real bed like normal people again.  That's not to say we are normal people; merely that we behave in a manner roughly analogous with being normal.

It arrived this morning at about ten o' clock and the first thing I did upon arriving home was dress it up in the lovely new bed linen I bought weeks ago, ready for this very moment.  I'm quite pleased with the way the stripes have lined up with the right-hand pillow.  That's my pillow, by the way.

In a different light

Here is the bed in a more mellow light.  Feaured in this photo are: my lamp, imitating a super-nova and my print-out of Black Fiddle, open on the bed where I'm re-reading it.  No longer must I read it on a mattress on the floor!  Notice how I've left my pen on the page there, in an attempt to convince you all that I was doing some work on it, instead of lying it artfully open for this photo.

Pickle works out if she can fit

And here is our headless cat.  Pickle was trying to work out if there was space for her to fit under the bed.  It turns out there is, but I think this looks much more amusing.  Our bed comes with a headless cat attached!

I think I might actually get a good night's sleep tonight.

HUZZAH! the bed arrives! Much goodness! Your back may indeed begin to like you again. :D

and you'd better do more work on Black Fiddle Though i did have to giggle when i saw the pic to see how you'd set the photo up. No... that wasn't staged :P

And i've found a shot where you're simply going to have to fire your continuity director, was it just me, or did those boxes of tissues miraculously turn into a book?

Posted by [identity profile] katiefoolery.livejournal.com
Yeah, continuity director. That explains it!

No, I just realised that having two boxes of tissues beside the bed didn't look that great, so I moved them. I really should have erased them from the earlier shot but I forgot.

I mean, it was the continuity editor's fault. Curse him.

Of course it wasn't staged! I just hopped up from doing some work and decided to take a photo, really I did. :P

I've been so excited about this all day. I kept jigging about at the thought of a real bed waiting for me when I got home.

And there I thought you'd finally found decent animal-imitating slippers.

Bun, back to deception class! You have left the pen lid ON that artfully arranged pen.

That said, I hope you have bounced on your bed lots of times now and are very happy with its welcoming consistency.

Good night!

Oh, Morbane - there are no animal slippers to be found anywhere. All they have are silly fluffy things or boring moccasins. I'm still incredibly depressed about it all. Why did my elephant head slippers have to die on me? I fear I'll never replace them.

Who's to say I don't keep the lid on the pen to keep the ink from drying out?

*looks innocent*

Thank-you! I'm so glad to finally have it. That'll teach me to buy a bed just before a mattress factory fire...

*gestures towards the TWO boxes of tissues with meaningful expression*

...oh my god, I think I just scarred myself. Nomes, I hold you responsible for getting me on that train of thought.

Sars! Honestly, the two of you...

Actually, it's only one tissue box, if that makes things any better. The one underneath is empty.

Yay! Beds are always marvelous. Seeing yours reminds me that it's high-time I switched mine out. XD After ten years, it tends to lose its effectiveness. =3

So good to see Pickle enjoying herself in such a manner. XD

Yes - I think you deserve a new bed after ten years! My advice is to go to a place where they "fit" you for your bed. We had to lie on a bed that was connected to a computer, which registered where we put the most weight when we slept and then recommended a type of bed to us. We seem to have found an ideal bed - we both like it and it's so cosy!

Pickle was having so much fun. She kept getting confused and thinking, "Hey, I used to be able to walk right under here..."

Pickle! Squee!!!

Although I'm amazed she limited her search under the bed and not claimed the top of it on sight. Or perhaps she's waiting until you've fallen asleep to do that. ;)

My boyfriend's cat likes to wait until we are asleep before deciding that we would be much warmer that the floor, leaps up on top of me, sits on my shoulder and curls up with her tail in my face. Usually I try and settle her elsewhere (such as on my boyfriend) but recently I managed to dislodge her in such a fashion that she slept beside me instead, though I don't think she'll be doing it again soon considering the ammount of times I accidentally elbowed her.

Thanks! It's brand new and it's been waiting so long to go on. :)

I was just listening to a song that has a line that goes: It's going to be cold without your arms - only I was reading your comment at the time and I sang the line as It's going to be cold without your head... Yes - cold and dead, presumably.

Actually, you lose the majority of your heat through your head so maybe without one you'll be all warm and toasty...

Maybe not...

Fabulous!!!

I'm so glad to hear (and see) that you got the new bed!

(And glad that Pickle can sneak under, should she want to...)

I love your lovely comforter, by the way. (smile)

In fact, all 'artful' arrangements for photo-worthiness is much appreciated!

Now I'm expecting a report of how nice it is to sleep on. (Nap time?)

(grin)

It's lovely to sleep on! I'm glad today was my day off work, because I really didn't want to get out of bed this morning. :)

I've been waiting so long to put that sheet set on the bed! When I bought it, I was hoping it would be a couple of days, not three more weeks before I could use it!

Hurrah!

After having slept on a mattress on the floor more than half of this year already [owing to incredible numbers of guest] I know what a return to a real bed is like!

Half a year on a mattress on the floor! Oh, I do feel for you. Four weeks was more than enough for me. There's nothing like finally being able to sleep on a real bed again. Bliss!

Huzzah!

Thank goodness for mattress companies finally delivering their product to your house! It looks very comfy and the striped linen is most jaunty; you'll never want to leave it...

Thanks. :) It finally arrived on Thursday morning, after we'd had to sleep on a mattress on the floor for four weeks, due to the demise of our old bed.

Ha I understand. lol I bet that was an 'experience' :D
My siblings and I used to do it out of free will once upon a time. Was the demise of your old bed rather suddenly and dramatically or eventually?

on 2006-05-13 06:14 am (UTC)
Posted by [identity profile] katiefoolery.livejournal.com
It was rather dramatic. It happened at about two o' clock in the morning, when I was fast asleep. The rail that held up the slats decided to break off, so I was suddenly at an angle! We had to drag the mattress into the lounge room, so we had somewhere to sleep for the rest of the night.

I can imagine, sounds like a lot of fun Kate. :D
A similar thing like that happened to my Uncle who is a paraplegic except they had a water bed and it busted so he was sinking down while his wife had to try and drag him out. They were all alright, but it was rather funny.

Were you guys laughing or annoyed?! :)
