katiefoolery: (Coconut modem)

And the promised pictures arrive!  We won't mention the fact that I had intended for them to arrive on Friday, for it is irrelevant.  Never mind my half-serious resolution to keep updating at least every Friday.

Not relevant, I say.

Anyway, without any further pointless rambling on my part, I would like to introduce you all to my new house.  Previous, standard, boring-type photos as taken by the agents can be found here.  I, however, am going the route of the slightly arty photograph.  In doing so, I run the risk of actually presenting the world with slightly pretentious and stupid photographs instead, but I'm hoping for the best.

Let's start outside, shall we?  Below, you'll find a picture of the side of the house.  Please note the generous amounts of greenery, not to mention the chimney.  Yes, there is an open fireplace in the lounge room.  No, we're not using it due to a) my inability to light a fire (although I can keep one going like a fiend if someone else starts it), and, b) the fact that there's an armchair right up against said fireplace.  Still, it's a nice idea.  Also, I am staring out of that window right now.  Well... I'm staring at the curtains in front of it, anyway.

Side of the house

Next, is a bee in a flower.  A grevillea, to be exact.  I love the fact that I can walk around this garden and name most of the plants, as opposed to the little sanctuary of native-flora-denial in which we used to live.  My point is: my pretteh Australian flowers with their attendant bees, let me show you them.

Bee!

Getting closer to the house, we discover the back verandah and that wrought-iron lacework.  Which would be nice if it were original, but I was in the garage the other day and I discovered about half a dozen spares hanging on a nail in the wall.  Still, it looks nice.

Oooh, an angle!

Inside at last!  Here's a much closer look at the polished wood floor of the lounge/dining/computer room.  Note the custard yellow walls and the air-con, neither of which affect me much since I don't spend that much time looking at the walls and I'm not all that interested in staying cool right now.  It was two degrees when I left to walk to the station on Friday morning.  Two degrees!

But I digress.  There's a companion picture of the slate tiles in the kitchen and hallway here.

A lot of floor

Here's one of the sash windows with which we're either blessed or cursed.  Some work perfectly.  Others require me to take up a gym membership before I'll ever be able to shift them.  This one's my window, although I don't spend that much time looking out of it.  I'm just grateful that it faces East and doesn't cast too much light onto my monitor.  (Please have this bonus pic of my computer desk.  I'm very happy with my little corner refuge.)

Room with a (bit of a) view

Before I moved here, I really didn't have an answer to the question "What's the one accessory every toilet needs?".  Now I know the correct answer is "A shower".

So convenient...

As we reach the end of our tour, we come to the feature that I loved most about the house from the photos posted on the website: the brass covers for the central heating vents.  And not only because it meant there was central heating...  They're just so pretteh.

Pretteh and shiny!

And here's a picture of Pickle.  Well, her head anyway.

Pickle lies in wait

So there you have it: my new place of residence which I currently adore.

OOh! I can see why you "currently adore". It looks gorgeous; airy and lovely and character-filled and cosy!

It's definitely all of those things, cosy most of all. I hope we can stay here for a while. :)

pretteh!

Especially the brass covers :D

Now all you need is that coconut oven and you're set!

It should go nicely with the coconut washing machine and the coconut central heating system. :D I think I'll stick with brass covers over coconut ones, though.

*happy sigh* I looks like a cozy, comfortable place to be. :) I am glad you found it! (or it found you - which ever way works! )

It is indeed. :D It was one of those rare finds in the midst of a disheartening search, so maybe it did find me after all.

Oooo! Very lovely, you lucky gal! Here in the next month or so, I get to move into yet another small hovel of an apartment. I shall drool over your lovely home whilst pining for my own. XD

But beautiful! Love it much!

I was so happy we got it, considering how screwy the rental arena is right now. And maybe your small hovel will turn out to be more of a cosy nook. You never know.

Although "nook" makes it sound even smaller...

Beautiful house! Though your shower is kinda odd looking (to me at least). Not used to seeing one with the head on the ceiling. Probably works 50xs better than the ones that come out of the wall. Just odd to see.

Okay...you'll have to clue me in here. Sash windows? I'm not sure what those are? Very pretty looking from the picture. Though, almost looks like a narrow door of some sort.

Hehe - that's a trick of the photo. The shower head comes out of the wall like a normal shower, it just looks like it's flush against the ceiling. And no-one's actually used it, because we all prefer the more civilised shower that's actually in a proper bathroom.

Sash windows are just the type with panes that you can pull down or push up. It's pretty old-fashioned, as windows go. I could crawl out of it if I wanted to, but it's much easier to use an actual door. :D

I love the greenery. And the polished wooden floors. And the fancy vent covers. And the Pickle. Hurrah for an officially marvellous new house!

Yay! *drools over grates* I should probably get around to photographing my corner of the world.

*waves at pickle*

Also what is with the coconut modem stuff? What HAVE I missed this time?

YES YOU SHOULD. I want to see it.

As for the coconut modems, Bec and I built our own for the tropical island we'll shortly be living on. Isolation is all very well, but one still needs the internet.

Quite right. Tropical islands would be somewhat boring without the modems.

May I come too? I'll bring the little umbrellas for the drinks!

Of course! We already had the cabana boys build a deck-chair for you, after all.

Loverly! Looks like a happy house.

And my parents have one of those random extra showers in the toilet too . . . they have put a chest of drawers in there for some reason.

Oooh, a chest of drawers! That could be handy. It's a damn sight classier than just storing the spare bags of cat litter in there as we do... although we at least hide them with the shower curtain.

Your comment pretty much expresses how I feel about the place. :D
