Pictures at last

katiefooleryAnd the promised pictures arrive! We won't mention the fact that I had intended for them to arrive on Friday, for it is irrelevant. Never mind my half-serious resolution to keep updating at least every Friday.
Not relevant, I say.
Anyway, without any further pointless rambling on my part, I would like to introduce you all to my new house. Previous, standard, boring-type photos as taken by the agents can be found here. I, however, am going the route of the slightly arty photograph. In doing so, I run the risk of actually presenting the world with slightly pretentious and stupid photographs instead, but I'm hoping for the best.
Let's start outside, shall we? Below, you'll find a picture of the side of the house. Please note the generous amounts of greenery, not to mention the chimney. Yes, there is an open fireplace in the lounge room. No, we're not using it due to a) my inability to light a fire (although I can keep one going like a fiend if someone else starts it), and, b) the fact that there's an armchair right up against said fireplace. Still, it's a nice idea. Also, I am staring out of that window right now. Well... I'm staring at the curtains in front of it, anyway.
Next, is a bee in a flower. A grevillea, to be exact. I love the fact that I can walk around this garden and name most of the plants, as opposed to the little sanctuary of native-flora-denial in which we used to live. My point is: my pretteh Australian flowers with their attendant bees, let me show you them.
Getting closer to the house, we discover the back verandah and that wrought-iron lacework. Which would be nice if it were original, but I was in the garage the other day and I discovered about half a dozen spares hanging on a nail in the wall. Still, it looks nice.
Inside at last! Here's a much closer look at the polished wood floor of the lounge/dining/computer room. Note the custard yellow walls and the air-con, neither of which affect me much since I don't spend that much time looking at the walls and I'm not all that interested in staying cool right now. It was two degrees when I left to walk to the station on Friday morning. Two degrees!
But I digress. There's a companion picture of the slate tiles in the kitchen and hallway here.
Here's one of the sash windows with which we're either blessed or cursed. Some work perfectly. Others require me to take up a gym membership before I'll ever be able to shift them. This one's my window, although I don't spend that much time looking out of it. I'm just grateful that it faces East and doesn't cast too much light onto my monitor. (Please have this bonus pic of my computer desk. I'm very happy with my little corner refuge.)
Before I moved here, I really didn't have an answer to the question "What's the one accessory every toilet needs?". Now I know the correct answer is "A shower".
As we reach the end of our tour, we come to the feature that I loved most about the house from the photos posted on the website: the brass covers for the central heating vents. And not only because it meant there was central heating... They're just so pretteh.

on 2008-05-25 05:34 pm (UTC)Okay...you'll have to clue me in here. Sash windows? I'm not sure what those are? Very pretty looking from the picture. Though, almost looks like a narrow door of some sort.

on 2008-05-26 09:29 am (UTC)Sash windows are just the type with panes that you can pull down or push up. It's pretty old-fashioned, as windows go. I could crawl out of it if I wanted to, but it's much easier to use an actual door. :D
